Saturday’s game between the Titans and Ealing Trailfinders saw the club working closely with the South Yorkshire RFU to encourage and celebrate volunteers in the game.
During the match SYRFU hosted an information stand speaking to supporters signing up several to play at junior and senior level as well as refereeing and supporting the sport locally.
Later in the evening, the Valley Room played host to the 2017 South Yorkshire Rugby Awards to thank and celebrate those who make the game happen at a grassroots level, the evening being topped off with Rotherham Phoenix Ladies Coach Jo Clark being named volunteer of the year.
In the past year Jo has grown the ladies team from one trainee to a functioning development squad while also delivering coaching to schools using the Rotherham Phoenix facilities as part of the SYRFU development programme.
In a day described as “brilliant” the Titans are proud to have played a small part in encouraging grassroots rugby.
