Titans Go Back To School

The Titans Community Foundation Schools Programme has a new look this season. Free rugby taster sessions are on offer to any primary school who wants to have our players working with them. If you have contacts in any primary school, through your children or grandchildren, just let them know!

Since the beginning of January the focus has seen the players working in several local primary schools on a regular basis. Seb Nagle-Taylor, Jamie Ure and Alex Dolly have spent time across in Retford, at Carr Hill Primary School, while Ellis Abrahams, Luis Ball and Jamie Cooke have been working with Sitwell Primary School here in Rotherham.

They have also organised and refereed at a Tag Rugby Tournament for 7 primary schools, and supported the local RFU programme of after school and evening sessions, to introduce young people to rugby, through Paul Kelly, the local RFU Development Officer.

The next schools in the programme are Swinton Fitzwilliam Primary, Brinsworth Howarth Primary alongside some after school coaching at Wickersley Academy. They will also be at the English Institute of Sport on the 8th March working with nearly 400 primary school children on rugby taster sessions. Any child who participates in any part of our schools programme is given a free ticket to a Titans home fixture, and many of them have already dragged their parents along to see ‘their’ players in action.

Funding comes from events at the club, such as the Race Night (March 1st), Quiz Night (5th April) and the Comedy Nights (27th March), and from individual and companies who sponsor the Titans.

We also receive a donation every time you choose TCF as your chosen charity at the local Co-Op. Just get a card, log on and choose your charity and help the Titans engage more children with the game of rugby.
