This memorable game from the 2013/14 season saw Rotherham take on Plymouth Albion at Clifton Lane, in round 19 of the Greene King IPA Championship.
Titans put in an awesome display in difficult, wet conditions, as they scored seven tries in their 45-10 victory over Plymouth Albion.
Going in at the break Titans led 12-3 as the rain teamed down at Clifton Lane. However, the second half sunshine inspired the home side to run in five further tries, as the Rotherham backline played some exquisite rugby and scored some scintillating tries.
Titans’ tries came from a Jack Roberts brace and one each for Jack Preece, Sean Scanlon, Michael Keating, Ali Birch and Robin Hislop, with Juan Pablo Socino and Garry Law combining to add 10 points from the tee.
Post Match Coaches Comments:
Lee Blackett: “We focused all week on trying to beat the standards we set at Nottingham and I think we came pretty close to doing that. To score 45 points in those conditions shows that on our day we are a very dangerous side. I’m obviously delighted with the result, but also with the boy’s performance as well.
“I thought we had a great defensive display; that was an area we’d looked at and one where we were looking for some improvement in. It was just a bit disappointing that we conceded 14 penalties during the game.
“But on a positive note, I thought every single time we had the ball we looked dangerous. I thought some of our running lines were exceptional and when we got our shape right we looked very good and we scored some great tries within that period.
“It’s difficult to talk about individual players when it’s such a team game, but I thought Jack Roberts was outstanding and that was probably the best game he’s had for the club. Our back row was also very impressive and Sean Scanlon at full back was very good again and it was great to see Tom Holmes put in a great performance on his full debut.”
