Sam Boxhall applied to join the RAF as a Physical Training Instructor way back before lockdown in 2020. The RAF put back all recruitment until the start of 2021, and Sam was told he wouldn’t be called to start , even if selected, until May 2022.
The RAF have hundreds of applicants for this key role and Sam was one of just 12 successful candidates at selection days this summer. He fully expected to be playing for us right through until the end of May 2022 and then starting his new career.
Last week, the RAF changed their recruitment and training dates and Sam now has to report for basic training in October!
This means that Bourneville will be his last home game, and Blaydon his last away, game, if selected. However, he is hoping to be able to return to play for Rotherham in the New Year, when his specialised training starts and he’s allowed off base on weekends and evenings.
The Club wishes Sam all the best in his career with The RAF and we hope he enjoys Basic Training!
Callum Bustin returned to the Titans this week after helping Barrow Raiders get promotion from the Bet Fred League One to the Championship. Callum was recruited for the 2020/21 season that never happened and worked in schools for the TCF from September though to Christmas. He left us in March this year, after the offer to play and work as a Community Coach came from Barrow. He will return to working with the Titans Community Foundation alongside Jamie Cooke, Alastair Donkor and Steve Salvin.
Callum would like to achieve a unique double this year - promotion twice in a season!
